National Small Business Week is taking place April 30-May 6, 2017! Observed beginning in 1963 by the Small Business Administration (SBA), this is a week dedicated to recognizing the important contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
In a video introducing the week, SBA Administrator Linda McMahon stated, “National Small Business Week honors the innovators who take a risk on an idea, invest in their communities, and create jobs. Their skills and creativity not only support their own families, they make our neighborhoods vibrant places to live and work and fuel our nation’s economic strength.”
According to the SBA Office of Advocacy, 99.7 percent of all U.S. employer firms are small businesses, and these companies account for 49.2 percent of private-sector employment.
Despite these statistics, small businesses continue to struggle when it comes to access to capital, sustainability, growth and various other regards. In fact, 80 percent of small businesses employ no one other than the owner. Helping small business owners thrive means helping our country succeed.
From events around the country to insightful webinars, the Small Business Administration (SBA) has diverse initiatives to support and empower America’s small business owners.
