Richard Cordray, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), today announced his resignation from the agency. Cordray, who has been the head of the CFPB since January 2012, will step down at the end of this month.

New Tax Plan: Effects on Affordable Housing and Small Businesses
The number of affordable housing units could be reduced by nearly 1 million under the proposed GOP tax bill, according to Novogradac & Company, a San Francisco-based national accounting firm. For Americans who utilize and depend on subsidized housing, being subjected to rising rents that currently exhibit a 2.7 percent year-over-year increase is all but impossible.
Women-Owned Businesses Grew 114 Percent from 1997 to 2017
According to the 7th Annual State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, women-owned businesses have increased by 114 percent in the last 20 years and are growing at 2.5 times the national average—women are currently starting an average of 849 new businesses per day. The report, commissioned by American Express OPEN, also found that businesses owned by women of color have grown 467 percent since 1997.
Millennial Men Help Break the Glass Ceiling
A recent study from the Boston Consulting Group reports that millennial men are more receptive than older men to women’s issues in the workplace. When compared to their older counterparts, millennial men are more likely to be in a dual-income household, contribute to child care, desire paid parental leave programs, and to “adapt their behaviors in support of their female coworkers.”

House Passes Bill Helping Entrepreneurs Raise Capital from Friends and Family
The House of Representatives has passed legislation making it easier for entrepreneurs to access capital from their friends and family. With the Micro Offering Safe Harbor Act, private businesses would be able to seek community-based financing of up to $500,000 a year for the purpose of hiring new workers and expanding their business.
New York Celebrates 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage
This week marks the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in New York. While the 19th Amendment—which gave women the right to vote after 70 years of activism by revolutionaries like Sojourner Truth and Eleanor Roosevelt—was passed by Congress in 1919 and ratified by the states in 1920, New York State gave women the right to vote an entire three years earlier in 1917.

According to Knight Frank’s recent Prime Global Cities Index, luxury real estate prices rose 4.2 percent in the past 12 months. The global consultancy firm’s index tracks the price changes in 41 cities across the globe.
