From September 15th to October 15th, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, stories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Mexico, Central and South America, Spain and the Caribbean. The observance began in September 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and was expanded into a month in 1989.

Unemployment Rate Hits 50-Year Low in September
The unemployment rate, or the jobless rate, dropped 0.2 percentage points to 3.5 percent in September 2019, marking the lowest rate since December 1969, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). When discouraged workers and the underemployed are factored in, the rate has still declined 0.3 percentage points to 6.9 percent, matching its lowest in almost 19 years and near the all-time low of 6.8 percent.
Nominations Open for 2020 Enterprising Women of the Year Award
As a partner organization on the Enterprising Women Advisory Board, NAWRB is pleased to announce that Enterprising Women magazine has opened nominations for the 2020 Enterprising Women of the Year Award, which is acclaimed as “the most prestigious global award recognition for accomplished women entrepreneurs.” The 2020 Awards will be presented on March 31, 2020, during the final evening of Enterprising Women of the Year Awards Celebration & Conference, a two-day conference in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
Women Inventors Comprise Less Than 13% of Patent Applicants Globally
Across the world, women inventors make up less than 13 percent of patent applications, and most of the women in that share are the only female in a team, according to a new study by the UK’s Intellectual Property Office (IPO). The IPO study explores the representation of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in worldwide patenting, highlighting gains and areas of improvement for women’s presence among STEM inventors.
