$62 Million in Funds to Help African Women in Business
The Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) recently announced that they will be providing almost $62 million in funds for African women in business as part of its funding allocation for the African Development Bank and its own programs focused on women.
Mother’s Day 2019
On Sunday, May 12th, Americans will celebrate Mother’s Day, a national holiday honoring mothers and motherhood. Mother’s Day was first organized by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, WV and Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 1908. As the annual celebration gained popularity, Jarvis requested that Congress officially recognize a day to honor mothers. In 1914 Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity
DiversityInc just announced their annual list of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity for 2019. Over 1,800 companies participated in a survey to evaluate the performance of their diversity-management initiatives in the context of their own industries. The four key areas under evaluation were talent pipeline, talent development, leadership accountability and supplier diversity. NWBC Report Profiles Rural Women Entrepreneurs
The National Women’s Business Council recently released the report Rural Women Entrepreneurs: Challenges and Opportunities, which provides insight into the dynamics and trends of rural women who own their businesses. It not only highlights opportunities and challenges rural women face in entrepreneurship compared to rural men and non-rural women, but also suggests areas for further research and policy examination to help empower this group through business ownership.
Bill to Increase Student Diversity in STEM Through Grant Program
Senator Kamala Harris introduced a new bill titled the 21st Century STEM for Girls and Underrepresented Minorities Act, which aims to help underrepresented communities gain access to educational materials, mentorships and work experience in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
