As 2017 begins and the transition in administrations nears, I’ve lost count of the number of emails I’ve received from people who will soon leave or have left their current positions in the government. With these emails, I’m reminded of the beautiful, pivotal relationships we have formed with these professionals since our formation in 2009.
These men and women—important heroes in the movement for women’s gender equality—will undoubtedly leave some very large shoes to fill.
The accomplishments that NAWRB has witnessed and contributed to in the last 8 years are truly special to us. From the historic Small Business Administration (SBA) contracting achievement in the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Program to the groundbreaking United State of Women Summit, these developments have contributed to a better American workplace.
There remains much to be done for true gender parity, but it’s important to recognize and celebrate these advancements the women’s movement has made possible.
The SBA, National Women’s Business Council (NWBC), White House Council on Women and Girls and Office(s) of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), to name a few, have been incredible agencies in the women’s movement. NAWRB thanks these entities greatly and their unsung heroes for their work and dedication to making a better tomorrow for women, and we wish you unbounded success in your future undertakings.
We look forward to continuing our work with the new administration and are excited about the possibilities on the horizon. As President Obama mentioned in last night’s farewell address, “It falls to each of us … to embrace the joyous task we’ve been given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours.”
Our work isn’t done, and we will continue until equality is a reality.
