Summer is indisputably Americans’ favorite season of the year; it means warm weather, vacations, spending time with family, and carefree fun.

Summer also brings with it a sizzling sun, and with the increasing amount of outdoor activities during this time of year, it is important to protect your skin by preparing for the hot climate.

If you know you are going to be in the sun make sure to have sunscreen with you and apply it to the areas of your body not covered by clothing. Sunscreen is only effective for a certain period of time, making sure to touch it up every couple hours will ensure you’re protected throughout the day.

If you would rather use a natural alternative, red raspberry seed oil and carrot seed oil are both good substitutes, with SPF levels in the 30-50 range.

Your clothes will offer the best protection. A light sweater, a hat, jeans, and towels are all useful items to wear during sunny summer days, keeping you protected and cool.

It is helpful to stay out of the sun in the late morning and early afternoon, the time of day during which sunburn-causing ultraviolet rays are the strongest. Additionally, eating healthy and drinking plenty of water throughout the day will help keep your skin hydrated and looking healthy.

Be sure to protect yourself even on cloudy days; the sun’s rays shine through the clouds and can be just as damaging as they are on bright days.

With the outdoor fun that summer brings it is impossible to stay out of the sun; we hope that our tips prove useful as you enjoy these delightful sunny days.
