The first week of November is set aside for National Veteran’s Small Business Week and this year, the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) is honoring women veteran business owners. Women who have served in the military are heroes, and when they decide to start a business that can employ other women or provide employment to their local communities they set themselves apart in a special league of their own.
With this special program, the NWBC is trying to obtain for veteran women business owners the rightful recognition they deserve. During this week, the NWBC is planning to provide resources to women veteran business owners, share statistics showing the prevalence of these entrepreneurs and also put a spotlight on some of the most successful veteran entrepreneurs in the nation.
Some of the inspiring women veterans who have made a place for themselves in the business realm include Phyllis Newhouse, who launched Xtreme Solutions, an IT company based in Atlanta and Lani Hay who founded LMT, a defense contracting company in Vienna, Virginia.
The 2012 Survey of Business Owners reported that there are 384,548 veteran women-owned businesses in the nation, which is a considerable rise from the 2007 installation of the survey. Women veterans are the most developed group in the small business world and it does not stop with veterans alone; even some military spouses have their own businesses.
If you are among the numerous veteran women or spouses of veterans who have wonderful business idea, a plan, and the fervor to do something for the remarkable, the society needs you.
NAWRB would like to congratulate women veteran business owners for their endeavors and successes. We applaud and support these ventures and the heroic women behind them.
