A new resource is an anti-harassment initiative providing women and men with legal assistance and actionable solutions for decreasing sexual harassment in the workplace.

The #MeToo movement —named Time’s Person of the Year—took center stage in 2017 as numerous brave women and men spoke up against sexual harassment and misconduct in workplaces across various industries, including politics, entertainment, media and more.

In 2018, 300 influential women in Hollywood are saying #TimesUp to gender inequality in the workplace in a recently announced initiative.

“TIME’S UP is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere,” reads their mission statement. “From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live in.”

Women in the Workplace Stats

  • Almost half of working women in the U.S. report being sexually harassed in the workplace.
  • 71 percent of women who experienced sexual harassment at work did not report it.
  • Nearly 50 percent of men think women are well-representation in leadership when only 1 in 10 leaders is a woman, compared to one-third of women.
  • One in 5 C-Suite leaders is a woman, while fewer than 1 in 30 leaders is a woman of color.

The initiative will work with leading advocates for equality and safety to improve laws, workplace policies and employment agreements to ensure that underrepresented groups have a platform to address injustice and hold others accountable.

The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund, currently holding $13 million in donations, will provide legal support for men and women who have experienced sexual harassment, assault or abuse in the workplace.

Movements such as these are important for increasing gender parity in all industries, including the housing ecosystem, not only to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace, but also to help women break through the glass ceiling for career advancement and to let their voices be heard.
