March 8 marks the 108th anniversary of International Women’s Day (IWD), “a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.” As part of Women’s History Month—which stems from a group of New York women factory workers protesting for better working conditions on this day in 1857—March 8 was first recognized and observed as International Women’s Day in 1909.
The day also represents a call to action for gender parity. This year the theme is #BeBoldForChange, which calls on the public to actively work toward a more gender inclusive world. NAWRB is currently in Washington, D.C. continuing our work towards women’s gender equality alongside leading organizations like the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) and Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP).
From events to protests and campaigns supporting women-owned businesses, women are making their voices heard. For more information on IWD and to find events in your area, please visit the IWD website.
