Newsletter: Linda McMahon is the New SBA Administrator – U.S. and Canada: Women in the Workplace

The Pew Research Center recently released a Social Media Fact Sheet detailing Americans’ social media trends. When the Pew Research Center began measuring social media usage in 2005, five percent of U.S. adults used at least one social media platform. Today, 69 percent of the public utilizes some form of social media.

From helping us keep up with family members to rekindling lost relationships with friends, social media has become a constant in our lives. Receiving a congratulatory comment or seeing a photo of a loved one can bring a smile to our face, and this joy and connection often drives our usage. As the Pew Research Center reveals, social media is not unique to one group of people, and strategically using its prevalence can result in bottom-line growth.

FHFA Proposes Amendments to Minority and Women Inclusion Regulations

unnamed

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) and is seeking comments on proposed amendments to its Minority and Women Inclusion regulations.

The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 requires Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and the Federal Home Loan Banks (regulated entities) to promote diversity and inclusion (D&I) in all their businesses and activities; the FHFA adopted regulations in 2010 to facilitate the implementation of these D&I requirements.

blog_sf-copy

Coming in as the seventh most expensive city in which to buy a home, according to Coldwell Banker’s Real Estate Home Listing Report, San Francisco – where the average cost of a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom house is $1,672,100 and the median household income is $78,378 – is home to a housing market that has unabashedly driven out long-time residents and businesses with its skyrocketing property prices.

The inability of residents to remain in their homes, and entrepreneurs to maintain their businesses can be seen as a side effect of the booming housing market, but it is entirely unfair to people who don’t earn the kind of money to continue living in the city.

Rebecca Steele Cleared With Prejudice
in 2008 Financial Crisis

Rebecca Steele, CEO and President, Sigma Associates, LLC
Chair, NAWRB Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council (NDILC)

In October 2013, Rebecca Steele became the only person found liable for their part in the 2008 financial crisis. This verdict was the result of a 2012 civil lawsuit filed by the office of Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara against Steele and Bank of America Corp., which alleged that Countrywide Financial Corp.-now owned by Bank of America Corp.-misrepresented the quality of loans it sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in its 2007 “Hustle” program.
