Vienna Holds 10-Year Ranking for Best Quality of Living

For the 10th year in a row, Vienna, Austria has ranked as the top city for providing its citizens with the best quality of life, according to Mercer’s 2019 Quality of Living Ranking. Zurich, Switzerland, was the runner up for best quality of life, while most of Western Europe dominated the ranking. Luxembourg was also named the safest city in the world.

California’s Cooling Housing Market to Continue into 2020

The latest UCLA Anderson Forecast of California’s economic and housing market reports that housing will continue to cool into the year 2020 despite current job growth and strong economy. The economists attribute the weakening to falling home prices in major markets and decreased demand.

Many Organizations Not Prioritizing Gender-Diverse Leadership

According to a recent report by IBM titled “Women Leadership, and the Priority Paradox,” a significant share of organizations are not making the increased inclusion of women in leadership roles a top business priority. Among the 2,300 organizations that were surveyed worldwide, only 18 percent had women in top leadership positions, including the C-suite, vice presidents, directors and senior managers. This finding is in stark contrast to a new wave of advocacy for gender-diverse leadership and a common understanding that diverse leadership leads to better financial performance.

Hispanic Poverty Rate Dropped to Historic Low in 2017

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the poverty rate among the Hispanic population dropped to the lowest level recorded in 2017, at 18.3 percent. This decline is not only the largest year-to-year drop among all demographic groups—1.1 percentage points from 2016—but also the lowest poverty estimate for Hispanics since they were first reported in 1972.
