Stories of Character and Courage-NDILC Luncheon Panel
After a jam-packed morning of information and new industry developments, our conference attendees were treated to an informal panel session led by NDILC (NAWRB Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council) Chairwoman, President & CEO of NAWRB Desirée Patno, Co-chair Vanessa Montañez, and Council Members Sarah Goldfrank, Dr. Chitra Dorai, Stacey M. Walker, and Teresa Palacios Smith.
Women’s Homeownership – Women Buyers & How to Serve Them
The penultimate panel of the 2018 NAWRB Conference was our Women’s Homeownership Panel focused on women buyers and how best to serve them. The panel featured a diverse speaker list of experienced real estate professionals, including Moderator Lenny McNeill, SVP, Managing Director of National Strategic Markets and Specialized Sales, U.S. Bank Home Mortgage; Adenike “Nike” Fasanya, Osilaja Owner, Marvel Ventures Mortgage, Inc.; Carmen Chong, CC Legacy Financial Corp. President, Broker and Life Insurance Agent; and Nelly DeLourdes Mitford, MP Global Real Estate Group, Commercial, International Investment and Residential Real Estate Services.
Unspoken Issues Impacting Women: Poverty, Health, Sexual Exploitation and Self-Confidence
From its title alone, you can tell this panel was a little different from the others. Wide-ranging in scope, yet narrow in its focus on issues that derail women from advancing in life, the conversations held on stage focused on topics people are sometimes uncomfortable talking about including sexual exploitation and poverty.
PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi Stepping Down in October
Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo’s CEO for the last 12 years and one of two women of color to lead a Fortune 500 company, has announced that she will be stepping down from her position on October 3rd, 2018. Her successor will be Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo’s President.

Following the “Freddie Mac Today” Panel at the 2018 NAWRB Conference, which offered valuable information on opportunities for homebuyers and businesses, the “Knowing Your Partners, Financial Support and Legal Community” Panel, including Sarah Goldfrank, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Fannie Mae; Alexander Almazan, Attorney, Almazan Law; Mark Ferguson, Deputy District Director, Illinois District Office, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA); and Desiree Patno, CEO & President, NAWRB, continued to educate our audience about the power of knowing your customers, market and legal community for ensuring the success of their business.
mPower: Addressing Workplace Disruptors
For the first time at a NAWRB Conference, mPower (Mortgage Banker’s Association Promoting Opportunities for Women to Extend their Reach) presented a panel, kicking off our Year of Women with style and substance.
NAWRB President and CEO, Desirée Patno introduced MBA COO and Founder of mPower Marcia Davies noting “This is the first time we have had a collective group of women and men from all different industries and this panel is the first time we have had MBA be a part of us.”

U.S. Small Business Administration Celebrates 65th Anniversary
Monday, July 30th, marked 65 years that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has been in service for millions of entrepreneurs and small businesses. Founded on July 30, 1953, the SBA has provided small businesses “with access to funding, mentoring, counseling, and when disaster strikes, support to recover and get back to business,” their press release states.
